KIEV, Ukraine

At least one person died and three others were wounded early Sunday in a gunfight in the eastern Ukrainian city of Slavyansk.

The clash erupted in the Balbasovka town of Slavyansk at GMT 11 p.m. and lasted for one hour, local sources told an Anadolu Agency correspondent at the scene.

The locals said the fight was between members of far-right Ukranian party Right Sector and pro-Russian groups in the city.

Ukrainian Interior Ministry confirmed the clash, saying one person died. Locals, however, claimed that three pro-Russian militants were killed during the fight.

The attack shattered a fragile Easter truce that was announced by Kiev on Friday.

The last deadly clash in the country took place on Thursday, leaving three pro-Russian militants dead in the southeastern port city of Mariupol.

On Thursday, Russia, Ukraine, US and the EU signed an agreement in Geneva, aimed at calming the tension in Ukraine. One of the key points of the agreement was disarming militias and paramilitary units in the country.
