Putin-Medvedev formula not suitable for Turkey: Gul

KUTAHYA, Turkey

The Russian Putin-Medvedev model -- where the president and the prime minister effectively swapped jobs in 2012 -- is not a suitable one for democratic regimes, said Turkish President Abdullah Gul on Friday, hinting that a similiar model for him and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is not being considered.

Speaking in Turkey's western Kutahya province, Gul added, "I'm saying, regarding the current conditions, I have no future political plans," he said.

Refusing to be drawn on whether he is considering a prime ministerial job or re-running for the presidency Gul said: "it is hard for me to state an opinion on some subjects, as I am the president. But anyway, I am not an independent politician, my political career did not start like that. So after talking with my friends, I will come to a clear decision on that issue," Gul said.

Gul said that after the end of the local elections, the presidential election is the next pressing issue.

"We already said that the prime minister and me will discuss any subject involving us together. These are normal talks before everything gets clear. Of course a new process will start after the candidates are determined," said Gul.

Turkish presidential election is scheduled for August 10.
