CAIRO (AA) – Egyptian prosecutors on Thursday ordered the release of Hatem Khater, the head of Egypt's state-run General Federation for NGOs.

"He was released after proving that he isn't a Muslim Brotherhood member and that he supported the decision to dissolve the MB Society and the June 30 protests" that culminated in the ouster of president Mohamed Morsi, a judicial source told Anadolu Agency.

On Tuesday, Khater was remanded in custody for 15 days on charges of "inciting violence" and belonging to a "banned group."

On Wednesday, an Egyptian court postponed to October 30 an appeal hearing challenging a recent ruling dissolving the Muslim Brotherhood Society – which was registered as an NGO in March – and outlawing Egypt's oldest Islamist group.

Last month, Egypt's Court of Urgent Matters ordered "the dissolution of the Muslim Brotherhood Society, the banning of the Muslim Brotherhood group and all affiliated bodies, and the confiscation of all its offices and funds."
