  • Turkey's satellite communications company TURKSAT will attend a leading electronic media fair to be held in the Dutch capital city in mid-September.
       TURKSAT, which currently operates Turkey's three satellites, will participate in the IBC Fair, world's leading international forum for the electronic media industry, to be held in Amsterdam between September 10-14, a statement from the company said on Wednesday.
       During the fair, TURKSAT will promote its satellite communications services, as well as its brands UydunetSKY and TURKSATGlobe, the statement noted.
       This year's IBC Fair is expected to host nearly 50,000 participants from more than 140 countries.

  • Turkey's Galatasaray soccer club was elected to the executive board of the European Club Association (ECA), a statement said on Wednesday.
       Galatasaray A.S. Director General Ebru Koksal was elected member of the executive board of ECA at annual general assembly of the ECA in Geneva, Switzerland, a statement by Galatasaray said.

  • 11:40   (DIP) CYPRIOT LEADERS MEET TO DISCUSS MUTUAL PROPOSALS ON PROPERTY ISSUE
  • President Dervis Eroglu of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias met Wednesday within the scope of Cyprus peace talks in order to discuss mutual proposals on property issue.
       Eroglu and Christofias, who met for the 11th time at the buffer zone in Lefkosa, will assess the detailed proposals on property topic all day long.
       UN Secretary-General's Special Advisor on Cyprus Alexander Downer and UN Secretary-General's Special Representative in Cyprus Lisa Buttenheim are also attending today's meeting.
       Leaders are expected to continue to discuss the property issue on Thursday, officials said.
       UN attaches great importance to the outcome of the full-day talks to be held today and tomorrow, sources also noted.
       Advisor Downer earlier said that if Cypriot leaders reached an important consensus on property issue, that would constitute a major step for direct negotiations between the parties in the island.
       Eroglu and Christofias held their latest meeting on September 3 and presented their summary opinions on the property issue.
       Eroglu's predecessor Talat and Greek Cypriot leader Christofias got together 71 times under the extensive settlement talks.
       Dervis Eroglu was elected the new president of TRNC on April 18.

  • Textile and ready-to-wear clothing exports from the northwestern province of Bursa rose by 9.3 percent and 7.5 percent respectively year-on-year in the first eight months of 2010.
       According to the data by the Uludag Exporters' Associations, textile exports reached 597.8 million U.S. dollars while ready-to-wear clothing exports were 320.4 million U.S. dollars in the mentioned period.
       Textile sector exported its products to 9 free zones, 113 countries and autonomous regions while RTW sector exported its products to 7 free zones, 99 countries and autonomous regions.

  • 11:38   (GEN) TURKEY TO ATTEND 153 TOURISM FAIRS IN 2011
  • Turkey will participate in a total of 153 tourism fairs to be held in 66 countries in 2011.
       According to Turkish Culture & Tourism Ministry's web-site, the ministry will promote Turkey's touristic and cultural values at numerous international fairs it will attend in an effort to increase Turkey's share in the world tourism market.
       The ministry will carry out promotion activities at major fairs held particularly in countries that send the highest number of tourists to Turkey, officials said.
       Culture & Tourism Ministry will set up pavilions at the "ITB Berlin" tourism fair and "MITT Moscow Fair" to be held in March 2011, as well as the "World Travel Market (WTM) London Fair" to be organized in November 2011 within this framework, sources said.
       The ministry also noted that representatives of leading Turkish tourism agencies, hotels and airline companies would promote their activities at the Turkish pavilions.
       Utrecht Tourism Fair to be held in the Netherlands, Madrid Fitur Tourism Fair to be held in Spain, BIT Milano to be hosted by Italy and Dubai Fair to be organized in the United Arab Emirates are some of the other tourism events to be attended by Turkey in 2011, officials added.

       A voice recording uploaded to the web-site "dailymotion.com" revealed that the recent incidents in southeastern Hatay province's Dortyol town were acts of an organized provocation. According to the recordings, a person, alleged to be the head of a nationalist organization in Hatay, gave instructions to protestors during the clashes that took place on July 26. "There is no turning back. You will march towards the coffee house of the Kurds. Let us destroy everything as we have seized the opportunity," the person said.

       Replying to remarks claiming that no military actions were taken in the Hantepe raid despite the images taken by Herons, General Staff said that "helicopters could not reach the scene of the incident due to heavy fog and dust clouds". However, Directorate General of Meteorology examined the 15-day meteorological maps and diagrams in Hantepe and Zap Valley and said that there had been no heavy fog or dust cloud in the region on July 20 2010, the day of the terrorist attack.

       The main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) chairman Kemal Kilicdaroglu and former CHP chairman Deniz Baykal appeared at a rally in Antalya hand in hand for the first time after four months.        A report prepared by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office of Ankara, which has been investigating the claims alleging that the telephone exchanges of the Supreme Court of Appeals and Council of State are being tapped, has revealed a terrifying truth. The report said that conversations were tapped through IMEI numbers and 37 different methods were used to determine the talks or to take their records.        Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan told Sabah daily that they would launch a new initiative for a consensus over a new constitution after parliamentary elections in 2011. Erdogan said that he believed that Turkish people would say 'yes' in the referendum on the constitutional amendment package. "If an agreement is reached with the Higher Election Board, the parliamentary election scheduled to take place in July 2011 can be held a month earlier," Premier Erdogan said.
