Arab League condemns Hezbollah involvement in Syria

Cairo

Arab League on Wednesday convened in an emergency meeting in Cairo headquarters to discuss latest developments in Syria.

Arab League Secretary General Nabil Elaraby said in a statement after the meeting that the foreign ministers condemned "all forms of foreign intervention, especially by Hezbollah" in Syria.

The league's remarks came after Syrian army retook the strategic town of Qusair near the Lebanese border as rebel fighters said Hezbollah played a significant part in the recapture of the town.

Lebanese Foreign Minister Adnan Mansur defended Hezbollah saying the group protected its relatives against armed troops in the Qusair area.

The Arab League expressed support to the efforts to hold an international peace conference in Geneva in June as well as to UN-Arab League Joint Special Envoy Lakhdar Brahimi.
