BEIRUT
A high level commander with the Free Syrian Army (FSA), Arif al-Hamud said that they were successful in stopping all civilian flights at the Damascus International Airport.
Speaking to the Anadolu Agency (AA), al-Hamud stressed that "the Damascus International Airport was now being used for military acts. FSA forces are highly influential in the region and the road to the airport is definitely not safe."
"Our struggle to free Damascus and whole Syria continues. This is not an easy job that could be completed in a few days," al-Hamud also said.
The FSA in December declared the Damascus Airport a military zone and had warned civilians and airlines.
