HALKBANK SECURES 75 MLN EURO SME LOAN FROM EIB |
ISTANBUL - The European Investment Bank (EIB) provided a 75 million Euro long-term loan for Turkey's state-run lender Halkbank.
Halkbank and EIB signed a protocol for the loan in Istanbul on Friday. Halkbank will use the loan to finance small and medium sized enterprises.
60 million Euro of the five-year loan will be provided by EIB while 15 million will be granted by the European Commission free of interest.
Halkbank's CEO Huseyin Aydin said that the loan would be an innovative opportunity especially for SMEs which do not have exports or small businesses that do not want to carry currency risk.
Aydin also said that Halkbank has so far signed six loan deals with EIB since 2001 and provided a total loan of 540 million Euro, adding nearly 1,000 Turkish small and medium sized enterprises had used these loans.
In 2009, 26.3 percent of total loans in Turkish banking system was provided by Halkbank.
The bank expects 25 percent growth in loans this year.
