Last year's German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich defeated Russian club CSKA Moscow 1-0 in a group stage match of the Champions League on Tuesday.

Away team Bayern Munich benefitted from a penalty as attacking midfielder Mario Gotze was brought down in the box at the 21st minute. The Bavarian club's forward Thomas Muller converted the penalty to make it 1-0.

Bayern Munich having won its first two matches leads Group E with 6 points.

"Today's victory was Bayern Munich's 100th in UEFA Champions League," said the club on its Twitter account.

The game was played behind closed doors at Arena Khimki in Moscow.

In February, UEFA had ordered that no spectators were allowed to watch CSKA Moscow's next European home game as some sections of the Russian club's supporters had chanted racist remarks during a Champions League match played against Viktoria Plzen in the Czech Republic last season.
