Homes sales in Turkey in May are up 19.4 percent year on year, official data revealed on Tuesday.

Housing sales kept its upwards momentum nationwide with a 19.4 percent increase to 107,888 after it boomed 42.7 percent in April, according to report from Turkish Statistical Institute, or TurkStat.

“Istanbul had the highest share (20%) of house sales with 21,576 houses sold. The followers of Istanbul were Ankara with 12,816 (11.9%) house sales and İzmir with 6,221 (5.8%),” said the report.

Of 107,888 sales in total, 1,982 were sold to foreigners, up 23 percent from a year earlier, including 636 sales in İstanbul, 546 in Antalya, 128 in Bursa, 111 in Aydin, 104 in Yalova 90 in Trabzon.

Mortgages for house sales in March rose to 40,086, an increase of 34.7 percent compared with the same month of the previous year.
