The sixth World Forum on Energy Regulation, WFER, sponsored by Anadolu Agency, came to a close on Thursday in Istanbul.

Turkey's Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) hosted the forum whose main focus was energy regulation.

The forum aimed to develop a common approach to energy regulation by gathering regulatory heads and representatives from developed and developing countries worldwide.

The seventh World Forum on Energy Regulation, WFER7, will be held in Mexico in 2018, Mustafa Yilmaz, head of EMRA confirmed on Tuesday.

The WFER is the leading international conference on energy regulation, held once every three years.

The speakers and moderators were selected after 14 months of discussions and were formally invited by EMRA. With 120 moderators and speakers, the event had a total of 24 sessions to discuss various topics including integrating energy networks, universal energy access and the role of the regulator in security of supply.

The forum hosted two special sessions, one on the struggle of energy-poor regions in the world and a G20 session. Energy will be one of the main topics of the G20 agenda in 2015 under Turkey's presidency.

During the forum, Alparslan Bayraktar, was elected as the new chairman of the International Confederation of Energy Regulators, ICER, on Thursday.

More than 1000 attendees from 85 different countries around the world attended the forum.
