Turkey: Outlook for construction, retail trade improves

ANKARA

The outlook for construction and the retail trade has improved in November, according to readings of indexes from the Turkish Institute for Statistics released on Monday.

The confidence index for construction rose to 82.9 in November from 81.7 in the previous month. This indicates that current overall orders in the construction sector in Turkey are better than seasonal norms.

The confidence index for the retail trade sector rose to 104.8 points in November from 104.2 points in October.

However the managers of the service sector surveyed by the institute were less confident about the business situation for the next three months, as the confidence index dropped to 95.9 in November, a reading two points lower than that of the previous month.

The confidence indexes range between 0 and 200. They indicate an optimistic outlook when the scale is above 100 points, and a pessimistic outlook when it is below 100.
