Award-winning Turkish film director Emin Alper’s latest movie will contest this year’s Venice International Film Festival, organizers announced Wednesday.

Alper’s 114-minute film Abluka [Frenzy] centers on the story of two brothers who are struggling to survive under “heavy political violence”.

The film stars Turkish actors Mehmet Ozgur and Berkay Ates.

Alper’s film will be competing against offerings from award-winning directors such as Russia’s Alexander Sokurov, Israeli filmmaker Amos Gitai as well as Armenian-Canadian director Atom Egoyan.

Another prominent Turkish director, Nuri Bilge Ceylan -- who won the 2014 Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival -- will be a jury member at this festival.

In May, the Venice festival revealed Oscar-winning Mexican filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron as its jury director.

This year’s festival will also see the rescreening of fellow Turkish award-winner Yilmaz Guney’s 1970-movie Umut [Hope] at the Venice Classics section, a world premiere selection of restored films.
