TASHKENT, Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan concluded an international horse racing tournament Sunday, which saw famous horse breeders from a number of central Asian countries and Russia.

The event, which started on Friday, aims to revive legendary Ahaltekin horse breeding traditions.

Competitions included distance running races for all breeds of horses, parkour and an exhibition-contest of the Akhaltekin breed of horses for the best looks.

Akhaltekin, also known as Akhal-Teke, is a horse breed from Turkmenistan, but breeders from Uzbekistan’s western regions and other neighboring countries are also known for breeding this famous type of horse.

“This year, Turkmen and Kyrgyz breeders could not participate in the tournament,” Timur Nizayev, Uzbek horse sports analyst, told Anadolu Agency. “Uzbekistan has dominated in all competitions, but surprisingly, this year Tajikistan’s team demonstrated strong competence.”

The tournament started 15 years ago and has evolved into an international championship since 2010, attracting horse breeders and experts from other central Asian countries, Russia, France and the Czech Republic.
