- Peruvian tenor Florez to perform in Istanbul

Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra will begin its new season on October 9, bringing world-famous music virtuosos to Istanbul’s Lutfi Kirdar Convention and Exhibition Center.

Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Florez will perform at the orchestra’s first concert of the season. Regarded as the ‘bel canto – beautiful singing’ tenor of choice for many, Florez was awarded his country’s highest decoration, the Order of the Sun, in 2007.

Florez will be accompanied by soloists such as Miah Persson, Ian Bostridge, Ufuk and Bahar Quartet, Arcadi Volodos, Michel Camilo, Bryn Terfel, Julian Rachlin and Latonia Moore.

Vienna-born Sascha Goetzel will conduct the opening concert. Arias by French composers Georges Bizet, Leo Delibes, Jules Massenet, Hector Berlioz and Italy's Gaetano Donizetti will be performed during the evening.

- Two silky voices from Greece come to Turkey’s cultural capital

Mario Frangoulis and George Perris will be performing at Istanbul’s TIM Show Center on October 8.

Greek tenor Frangoulis – best known for his song ‘Vincero, Perdero’ – and pop singer Perris will share the same stage.

Perris released his first English-language album ‘Picture This’ in 2014. The album includes 13 tracks, three of which have been written by Perris and featured the Prague Symphony Orchestra.

The two musicians will sing in Italian, Spanish, English, French and Greek.

- Broadway musical is Turkey-bound

Disney’s award-winning musical ‘Beauty and The Beast’ will be performed at a special concert for its 20th anniversary at Istanbul’s Zorlu Center on October 8.

The original creators of the Broadway musical are together again for this tour programme. Based on 1991’s Academy Award-winning animated feature film, the play has been staged in eight languages in 22 countries and has been seen by more than 35 million people worldwide.

The Broadway musical will appear in 12 countries after Turkey, including Kazakhstan, the United Arab Emirates and Thailand.

- American synth-pop band to perform in Istanbul

U.S.-based band Future Islands will be performing at the Istanbul Salon music hall on October 10.

Formed in 2006 the band members are Gerrit Welmers, William Cashion and Samuel T. Herring.

The Baltimore trio released its first extended play ‘Little Advances’ in 2006. In March 2014 the band released their new album ‘Singles.’

- Istanbul's vampire unveils second art exhibition

Istanbul’s own ‘Count Dracula’, AKA Giovanni Scognamillo, is displaying his second exhibition of vampire paintings at the Selfestate gallery until the end of October.

Scognamillo, 85, has been writing and researching vampires for decades. He has been drawing in his own style since he was seven years old.

By day an artist and cinema-history writer, by night, Scognamillo – with his long, tapered black nails – is a self-described ‘vampire’.
