'Turkish Oscars' celebrate 100 years of cinema

ISTANBUL

Turkey's international film festival celebrates 100 years of Turkish cinema when it is staged later this year.

The International Golden Orange Festival - known as the Turkish Oscars - will be held for the 51st time in the southern city of Antalya.

Mayor Menderes Turel said: "We will aim to make the festival more global this year as we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Turkish cinema."

Festival director Elif Dagdeviren added: "The Golden Orange has been perceived as a prestigious platform by young Turkish directors as well as contributing to the great forward leaps of Turkish cinema. We aim to bring the Turkish movie sector to life by injecting new blood."

She said the festival, held between October 10 and 18, is one of the longest-running cinematic events.
