Miami in the US "sunshine state" of Florida is to become Turkish Airlines 12th destination in the Americas, the company has said.

Miami flights will be operated seven times per week in both directions from Oct. 25, 2015, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

Turkish Airlines’ CMO Ahmet Olmustur said: "We’re thrilled to name Miami as the newest gateway in the U.S. and proud to serve one of the most influential tourism scenes in the world.

"Our global network and award-winning service will make international travel easier and more convenient for both business and leisure travelers in this area."

Round-trip fares are available from Istanbul to Miami starting at €495 ($555) including taxes and fees.

Additionally, for the first six months of operation to the new destination, there will be a special offer for Miles&Smiles members, with a 25 percent reduction in the miles needed to redeem as either award tickets or upgrades.

Turkish Airlines currently offers flights from Turkey to Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Toronto, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Washington, Boston, Montreal, and San Francisco.
