Basketball: Playoff fever in Turkish Airlines Euroleague

ISTANBUL 

Turkish Airlines Euroleague Top 8 will begin on Tuesday.

Two Spanish and Greek, one Turkish, Italian, Russian and Israeli teams will each compete against each other in Milan to be in the final four of Turkish Airlines Euroleague.

Turkey's Galatasaray, who completed in Group F and came in fourth place in the top 16, will meet the leaders of the Group E, Barcelona in the top 8 phase.  

 Spanish giants Real Madrid, who have the most titles in Euroleague history, will play against the last two years' winners of Turkish Airlines Euroleague Olympiacos from Greece. Russian team CSKA Moscow will encounter another Greek team Panathinaikos who won the Euroleague title six times so far. Italy's EA7 Emporio Armani Milan will compete against one of the deep-rooted teams in European basketball, Maccabi Electra from Israel.

On Tuesday there will be two games. Istanbulite team Galatasaray Liv Hospital will be hosted by Catalan giants Barcelona, the game in Barcelona's home court Palau Blaugrana tips off at 20:00 local time in Turkey. Meanwhile Spain's Real Madrid will encounter Olympiacos from Greece in Madrid, the showdown in Palacio de Deportes de la Comunidad de Madrid tips off at 22:00 local time in Turkey.

The other two games will be played on Wednesday. Russia's CSKA Moscow will meet Greek team Panathinaikos in Moscow. The game between two giants tips off at 19:00 local time in Turkey and lastly Italy's EA7 Emporio Armani Milan will play against Israeli team Maccabi Electra in Milan at 21:45 local time in Turkey.

According to the regulations, the top 8 stage playoffs will be played as the best-of-five series from April 15 to 25. Whatever team receives 3 wins out of 5 matches will be in the final four phase to be held in Mediolanum Forum located in Milan between 16-18 May.

The top 16 teams who completed the previous stage, as leaders and runners-up will have the court advantage in the playoffs. Thus the first two matches will be played in the courts of the leaders and runners-up, and the rest of the games will be played in the away teams' courts. The last match, if needed, will be played in the courts of the teams who were the leaders and runners-up of the previous top 16 stage.

April 15

Barcelona vs Galatasaray Liv Hospital at 19:00 CET

Real Madrid vs Olympiakos at 21:00 CET

April 16

CSKA Moscow vs Panathinaikos at 18:00 CET

EA7 Emporio Armani Milan vs Maccabi Electra at 20:45 CET
